Discover How Our Formula For 9-11 Year Olds Helps Improve Your Childs Focus, Attention, Listening And Bring Out The Champion In Them!

Our kid's martial arts program is designed to build their confidence, but we have a specific formula to help students who struggle with focus, concentration, listening, and paying attention. It empowers them with the skills to listen, pay attention, learn, and excel in school, sports, and the rest of their life.

It is wrapped in our self-defense skill development classes, which give them the confidence to stand up for themselves.

This results in a more positive mindset, feeling good about themselves, and improved grades in school because they have the skills and knowledge to succeed.

Hear what Mr. Deaver's has to say about this program

If your child struggles to listen, pay attention, or has been told they have ADD, we know the burden falls on you to figure this all out.

You have to be the one to try to build their concentration muscle.

You are the one who hears it from teachers that they don't pay attention in class, while they don't give you any great solution other than "seek out a doctor who will give you medication for the problem."

You know your child loses focus, but has the potential to be anything. However, you can't seem to get them to concentrate longer.

Let me be the first to say this to you. Any of this is a tough task to handle on your own. It's hard and I know at times you feel you'll never get this right.

But, that is where I'm hoping to help you.

Over the last 25+ years I have been refining, tweaking, and perfecting my program to help children who:

1. Wrestle with their concentration.

2. Have a hard time staying focused on a task, or let distractions get the best of them.

3. Have a short attention span.

Focus is a skill just like learning any other skill. They can build their concentration. We teach them how.

Does any of this sound relatable?

It's like they are bouncing off the walls none stop. Having enough energy isn't the problem for them, it is knowing what to do with it.
They only know how to concentrate on video games.
Teachers are always giving you a report about how they talked too much, are looking out the window, or seem to lose focus easily.
Or, their grades are suffering because their attention span seems to be too short for school.

If this sounds like something you've been dealing with, I have something very important to share with you...

There is nothing wrong with your child. Yes, they may be challenged to concentrate on a different level than others. But, they have a stronger ability than you might ever imagine. Taught how to harness their energy and where to focus it is the key.

So, let me walk you through the approach I take with kids who need just a little help capturing that energy and putting it in the right place. We build them by setting a foundation and then teaching them how to use the tools we give them.

Martial Arts Focus Ankeny Martial Arts

Our step-by-step approach for building focus that works for your child

Encouragement

We take a different approach than the one we use for building confidence and bullyproofing. Believe it or not, focus challenged students don't grapple as much with low confidence. They jump head first into things. But, this is also where most people misunderstand them. This jump first and figure it out on the way down approach goes against common thinking. A focus-challenged student needs to be encouraged how to manage the head first approach. How to harness their energy. And, how to direct it in a way that is powerful for them. Rather than being scolded, put in timeout, or some other harsh approach, they can be taught what to do with this invisible force moving them all over the place. That's the good news. The only "bad" news is takes time and patience. We got those covered for you. Once they know how to harness it, they become unstoppable.

Validation

This is just like building a house. It starts with a foundation. But, you need a solid foundation before you can build on it. That is what validation is. It is the foundation that begins to build confidence in your child. This certainty is the confidence that they can focus, that they can concentrate, and they do have the ability to control this energy. I am not going to sugarcoat this; this won't be easy, but it will be worth it. Do it right and the foundation hardens to the point of being unbreakable. Do it wrong, and you risk cracking and making it weak. We carefully take these ingredients and add the right amount so your child starts to build focus from day one.

Process-Minded

Once the foundation has begun to harden, we then begin to construct the rest of your child's focus-house. This is where we begin to teach your child about process and progress rather than perfection. We show them what "doing your best" means, how to manage their mindset with challenges or obstacles they face, and they get to practice so it becomes part of their DNA. They learn how to reign in their energy, control it, and manage the flow of it.

Earning and Learning

Anything worth value has been earned. You've had to earn everything your family has, so teaching this to them can be difficult. Especially, when they see all that is available around them. This is one of our most important steps in our system. Every student here has to earn their way to the next level. Nothing is given. We teach them about the Black Belt Mindset: Desire, Dedication, Determination, Discipline. When they learn how this fits together, they become the leader in their life and confidently keep moving forward.

Taking Responsibility

The outcomes we get in life are in direct correlation with the actions we take. To take action, you have to first take responsibility for yourself. In this step, we start to show them how they are the "Captain of Their Ship, and The Commander of Their Life." We use the classroom as a training grounds for them to discover how they are in control of success and learning.

My son started as a Tiger and then began Tae Kwon Do and is now also in the NinjaTrix program. He loves it!

Self-Defense and Bullyproofing skills. Is your child being bullied, teased, or pushed around? Worry about their safety?

See any of this happening?

They seem to let others push them around.
They get talked into doing things because they didn't know how to stand up for themselves.
They are getting teased for being who they are and don't know how to feel comfortable with being themselves.
They seem to be the last picked, not making a lot of friends, or find they don't fit in.

If any of this sounds familiar, then I know how hard it is to watch your child go through this. To them, they feel all alone. You are heartbroken and feeling helpless - the school doesn't help, other just give advice that doesn't work, and then you are left wondering what to do.

Most of this boils down to confidence. When we know who we are and understand that we are not different from others, then we realize how much we have to offer - just like anyone else. But, realizing it takes a very unique process to uncover it.

So, let me walk you through the approach I (and my instructors) take, how we build them, and the way it all comes together for your child.

Bullyproofing Martial Arts Ankeny IA

Our step-by-step self-defense and bullyproofing system that'll work for your child

Encouragement

Okay, you might have read the material in the confidence section, so let me take it one step further. This isn't just an act of saying, "Great job, Sara." There is a special way to encourage so the student uncovers their own power. They uncover it by themselves, which is way stronger than us just telling them how great they are. They are your special little one, but the more we shield them the more we rob them of the ability to be strong enough to know who they are and what direction they should take. Rather, they end up getting pushed around, teased, and bullied. Here's some good news...we have the system, the process, and the program that reverses all this and builds confidence. We teach them self-defense skills that work. You see, we help your child uncover their strengths. Once they know them, and their confidence, no one can take it away from them. They then find their voice and realize how to stand up for themselves.

Validation

Think of this like building a house. It starts with a foundation. But, you need a solid foundation before you can build on it. That is what validation is. It is the foundation that begins to build confidence in your child. This isn't going to be easy. There will be some setbacks, but when you stick to the course, it is magical how empowered they become. They find their voice. They begin to know who they are. They realize the light that shines within them. They learn how to use their strengths to live a more fulfilling life. And, they stand up for themselves and stop letting others bully them or push them around. Again, not simple, but not easy either. You can do this all right, or you can do this all wrong. We measure and mix the ingredients of encouragement and validation in the right amount so your child develops the unbreakable foundation they need to keep building their confidence from day one.

Process-Minded

Once the foundation has begun to harden, we then begin to construct the rest of your child's confidence and bullyproofing-house. This is where we begin to teach your child about process and progress rather than perfection. We show them what "doing your best" means, how to manage their mindset with challenges or obstacles they face, and they get to practice so it becomes part of their DNA. They learn the steps we teach about dealing with others who tend to be more aggressive or have bullying tendencies.

Earning and Learning

Learning and developing anti-bully skills, requires learning and earning the skill. Anything worth value has been earned. You've had to earn everything your family has, so teaching this to them can be difficult. Especially, when they see all that is available around them. This is one of our most important steps in our system. Every student here has to earn their way to the next level. Nothing is given. Learning how to be a leader in your life starts with the right message, the right teacher, and the right application. That's what our program provides for your child.

What Makes Our Program Different

Character Building

Our program isn't just an 'activity'. Sports are an activity and many martial arts school are like sports. We teach martial arts, but we use it only as the vehicle to instill leadership, character, and empowerment.

Beginner-Friendly

Your child doesn't have to have previous training. They don't have to be athletic. They don't have to have coordination. We provide them with all the skills they need to learn and grow with from day one.

Simple to Try a Class

No uniform is required to try the class. They don't have to feel awkward their first day, and you don't have to invest in something that might not work out. All they have to do is wear a pair of athletic shorts and t-shirt.

Sports not Working

Have you tried team sports or other activities that didn't work to help you get the results you were hoping for? We get many parents that say nothing else worked until we tried this.

Girls Thrive Here

The young ladies in our class excel like little warriors. They gain the skills to defend themselves, the focus to concentrate, and the confidence to believe in who they are.

Age-Appropriate

Our classes our designed and split to meet the needs of different age groups. A five year old's needs and development are way different than a ten year old. Your child will excel here.

3 Facts You Should Know Before Trying Any Martial Arts

Structured Classes

The classes should have some sort of structure to them. This develops the skill requires for all levels and provides a challenge associated to it. Growth happens when you are taken out of your comfort zone and placed in an environment where you have to figure out how to excel and succeed. Here at Ankeny Martial Arts, we structure our classes to develop each student at all stages of their training.

Professionally Trained

We pride ourselves as having the BEST instructors for your child. This means that I personally see to it that my instructors meet the requirements to be an instructor for each age group they are helping with. They go through weekly, monthly, and yearly instructor-training sessions where they learn how to develop a child and make skills age-appropriate so you know your child will get the best.

Blueprint for Success

To get where you want to go in life, it is recommended to have a map or blueprint you can follow. We know success isn't an accident. To reach your goals, succeed, and come out a champion in the end, you need a roadmap. That is what we provide with our program. It is the roadmap that builds their confidence, improves their focus, and give them the self-defense skills to stand up for themselves.

Here's What Some of Our Parents Have To Say

We were amazed

My daughter has learned patience, focus, confidence, being calm, being respectful, and it has strengthened her memory and muscles and improved her endurance. And then there is the part where I don’t worry about her being bullied, or doing the right thing.

Brian Clark

Highly recommended

Mr. Deaver is an exceptional person. His black belt student instructors are top notch. Wyatt loves the Lil Ninjas and the youth Tae kwon do programs. His confidence, balance and agility have all improved since starting the classes. Highly recommended.

Roxanne Jacobson

Invaluable

What I like the most is that they are not the get in your face, regimented type of place. They teach not only the Art of Tae Kwon Do but how to live by the tenants of Tae Kwon Do: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit.

Our Empowered Kids Kickboxing Program

When it comes to learning self-defense and anti-bullying skills, how you train matters. We take a four-style approach to teaching self-defense and bullyproofing. This makes for a well-rounded student who can handle any situation or circumstance they find themselves in. And, as crazy as times are getting today, we make sure to help your child feel confident because they are competent.

Kids boxing Ankeny Martial Arts

Boxing

Boxers have some of the best hand skills and footwork. One of the things we see most is kids getting bullied is they get punched or pushed. It is a natural thing for humans to use their hands, so we incorporated Boxing into our Empowered Kids Program to make sure they know how to defend against someone punching or pushing them. This skill gives them stability, balance, and coordination. Something they can use even in other sports or physical activities. Plus, this is one of the most empowering styles for your child to gain confidence from.

Kicking (Kickboxing/Taekwondo)

The second thing we see from students who get bullied is they get kicked. This is why we incorporate the skills from Kickboxing and Taekwondo. These two styles have their traditions steeped in using their legs to defend and attack with. When you know how someone is going to attack, it is much easier to defend. In addition to this, we've also added from other Kickboxing styles like Muay Thai and Savate. This allows the student to get exposed to what attackers do and how to defend it. Again, it is about competence so they can be confident.

Kids Wrestling and Grappling Skills Ankeny

Groundwork/Wrestling

Knowing how to defend yourself from being tackled, pushed to the ground, or taken down in other ways, is important for our students so they are well-rounded. In addition to this, they gain the knowledge of what to do when they are on the ground. How to defend, attack if they needed to, and how to get back to their feet. Groundwork starts to close the circle in our program while giving them the best skills possible.

Weapons

Our world is changing. Let's be honest. So, teaching kids about weapons defense can be tricky. We take a more traditional weapons training approach like the use of a staff, nunchuck, and sticks. Having the right knowledge, respect, and understanding is vital to getting a full program. This introduction and continued training also makes it fun for them. They get to learn, reduce their fear, and feel comfortable they can defend themselves if a bully picks up a bat, stick, or some other weapon.

Your child will excel in our program because we focus on character and leadership development.

Here are some of the other traits and skills you might like that our program cultivates

More Self-Control

This is a big element in our self-defense program. Each student learns how to control their emotions, fears, and doubts. When we let our emotions run high, our thinking usually goes out the window. This is a very important lesson of application we teach to in our kid's program. This is also a character skill that they can use at home and in school. It is something that will improve their life...any yours.

Better Listening

Find yourself having to repeat yourself constantly to your child? We understand your frustration. It is one of the biggest lessons our kid's program has as an overarching emphasis. With focus being one of the key traits we teach, listening goes hand and hand with it. Your child will learn how to actively listen and pay attention to the words and message that is being directed at them.

Strong Self-Discipline

We teach that discipline is "Doing what you have to do, not what you want to do." There are many things in life that we all want to do, but there are chores, duties, and other important tasks that need to be done before we can do what we want to do. Being one of our tenants, you child will begin to learn what self-discipline is and how to use it in their life. Daily, this trait will build stronger and stronger.

Leadership Skills

Learning how to be a leader in your own life first sets you up to be a great leader to others. It is one of the things we begin to show your child as they gain all the other skills. They get to build their voice, learn to stand in front of other confidently, and take charge of their martial arts journey. All this gives them the opportunity to develop leadership skills they can use at school, at home, and in the rest of their life.

Character Skills

One's character is all we have to show the world who we really are. It is our mission to help your child establish character traits that will set them on a positive path. This path is encouraged and validated to cement the positive traits in their character. Things like manners, respect, how to treat others, and so many more that aren't taught in school or universities. This is something that will be with them when needed.

Life Skills

There are lessons in life that teach us about ourselves, our environment, and our lives. We think it is important your child gets to learn from their educational journey. This martial path we take them on is very much an educational journey where they get to harness the power of learning. They get to grow as they overcome challenges, work through tasks, and manage their mindset.
